
After a lengthy and valiant struggle with cancer, Sandra J. Hutchens, 51, of Lodi, passed away early Saturday, June 30th, 2007 in Stockton.
She was born February 9, 1956 in Lodi where she resided all of her life.
Sandy worked for Gallo Winery for several years before joining AIM Inc. in Lodi from which she was forced to retire due to illness.
She attended local schools and graduated from Lodi High School in 1974. She then attended San Joaquin Delta College and California State University, Stanislaus. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Women of the Moose and San Joaquin Historical Society, Lodi TLC Unit of Ila Neb Ct. #51 of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America.
She was a water exercise instructor assisting at Hutchins Street Square and a trainer for the Sacramento Arthritis Foundation in the Aquatics program. Also an associate member of the Lodi Grape Festival.
She enjoyed the theatre and worked closely with the “Rising Phoenix Theatre Co.” assisting with technical aspects of productions. She made costumes for the “Wiener Dog Races” at the state fair.
Sandy enjoyed craftwork, making stained glass items which she gave to family and friends. She made quilts which were given to various organizations for shut-ins and children. She appreciated wine shows, wine tasting, collecting wines and items with grape motifs.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Hutchens; stepmother, Altonita “Tita” Hutchens and,stepbrother, Tom (Sue) Naumann of Florida. She is survived by her father, Earl Hutchens of Lodi; stepbrothers, Don (Becky) Naumann of Cupertino and Michael (Laurie) Naumann of Idaho; stepsisters, LeeAnn Schaeffer of San Jose and Nadine Herndon of Fair Oaks and Carlene Smith of Louisiana; aunts, Jettie Davis and Anna Crayton, both of North Carolina; many cousins in North Carolina and stepcousins, Tennise Allen and Karen Wuest of California.
Sandy will be sorely missed by many, especially her dear friends and classmates Bea (Crawford) Chase, husband Rob and family, and Karen Ashworth.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lodi with Rev. Jolla Bortner officiating. There will be no visitation and Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
